Top 6 Tips for Hydrating Winter Skin
Oh, winter. What a lovely time of year. Cool air, crisp snow, fuzzy socks and warm latte's. While the winter is a beautiful season, it doesn't seem to treat out skin so well. For many people, the colder months of winter bring more than just a rosy tint on their cheeks. Unfortunately, this time of year can also steal moisture away from the skin - which is why we've came up with the top 6 tips for supple, healthy winter skin.
1. Resist the urge to lick your lips
That's right, it's been said! We know it's tempting, but don't do it! As Dr. Shi states - "Saliva has enzymes that break down dry lips further. It's a viscous cycle." Instead, soothe your lips with a moisturizing lip balm.
We recommend our Vegan Lip Butter; it's all natural with ingredients like organic shea butter, organic olive, coconut & jojoba oil! It comes in a large jumbo craft tube, so it'll last a while! (Plus, you won't feel bad throwing it away!).
2. Moisturize after you wash
Have you ever washed your hands so much that you began to realize your skin was peeling and cracking out of nowhere? Washing over and over again can lead to ultimate dryness - leaving your skin super uncomfortable. That's why it's important to quickly moisturize after you wash. Don't skip this step! (You'll thank us later.)
3. Hydrate from the inside out
Eat foods higher in water content such as watermelon, celery, carrots, grapes and cucumber. Not only do these foods have high amounts of vitamins and minerals - but studies have shown that foods high in water help you stay hydrated and keep your skin glowing - even through the cold, winter days.
We also recommend to stay away from caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol, which can actually remove water from the body - leaving you dehydrated.
4. Watch the water temperature
The hot, rising temperatures may feel nice, but not be so nice to your skin. In fact, it can dry out your skin even further. Try washing in lukewarm water instead, as it won't strip you skin from the natural oils, especially when washing your face!
5. Bring the essentials with you
There's a high chance you'll want to reapply moisture throughout the day. That's why we recommend hand creams, lip balms, facial mists and moisturizers. Bring your favorites with you! You'll be happy you did.
We love Body Vanity's Hemp Body Butter. Their handmade whipped butter has the perfect touch of moisture for deep hydration - minus the greasy residue!
Our favorite facial mist has to be the Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist. It's all natural and loaded with those rich antioxidants, keeping your skin soft and locked with hydration!
6. Target treat at night!
Don't be afraid of switching up your skincare regime during the colder, winter months. Oils and serums are skin life savers!
We personally love the Blu Synergy Nourishing Facial Oil. This blend is made with powerful plant-based ingredients, including evening primrose oil, prickly pear seed oil, jojoba oil, blue tansy essential oil and helichrysum essential oil. Plus it comes in a 6-8 month supply!
